Recognition
An experiential immersion
Open Space,
Self-tenderness&the Celebrationof Existence
The immersion
A small-group experiential immersion exploring three recognitions: the open space in which experience arises, the tenderness with which you can meet your younger self, and the extraordinary fact that you exist.
Part 0
Meeting Open Space.
Recognition begins with a meditative exploration of the open space in which experience is already occurring.
The contents of experience move and change, while the space itself appears open, unchanged and allowing — an inherent equanimity.
Meeting Open Space is like a fish realising it swims in water.
This is the ground.
Part 1
Meet yourself with tenderness
Recognition invites you to encounter your younger self.
The intention is not to analyse the past or search for what was wrong. It is to meet and hold your younger self with tenderness, and to allow that tenderness to be felt and received in your system now.
Tenderness is a homecoming.
Part 2
Recognise your life
Recognition then widens from meeting yourself with tenderness to recognising your life.
We celebrate birthdays, relationships, achievements and extraordinary events within our lives. But have you ever celebrated and deeply acknowledged the prior fact that made every one of those experiences possible?
You were born.
You are alive.
You exist.
Through guided contemplation and celebration ritual, we will create space for the significance of this fact to register.
Facilitated by Paul Walsh

Recognition grew from practices I have lived closely with: recognising the equanimity of Open Space, meeting and holding my younger self with tenderness and celebrating each new day as it comes.
I have spent many years in meditation, philosophical inquiry and psychological-development work. I hold a degree in Philosophy, studied psychotherapy formally for three years, and have taken part in a number of intensive personal-development processes.
I created Recognition because I believe that these practices are fundamental ways of being more fully in contact with our lives.
Recognition may be for you if you're drawn to meditative insight, developing a relationship with yourself in which you become a sanctuary to yourself, and contemplating and celebrating the extraordinary fact that anything exists at all - including you.
